Frequently Asked Questions

  1. What is the Splashball™ Festival?
    The Splashball Festival is a co-ed Splashball tournament at La Mirada Splash that is combined with a Disneyland Park Athlete Celebration Event.
  2. What is the age group for the tournament?
    There is one age group which is 5-9 years old.
  3. What is the tournament format?
    Teams will play in a round robin tournament. There will be no outcomes for placement or final standings.
  4. What is the game format?
    • The game will consist of two (2) 10 minute halves with 2 minutes between each half.
    • Teams swap ends at half-time.
    • Teams are allowed one (1) minute time out during each half
  5. Will there be awards?
    Each participant and coach on all teams will receive a tournament medal.
  6. What is the date to determine the age of participants?
    December 31, 2010 is the age cut off date for the 2010 Splashball Festival.
  7. Are there locker rooms at the pool?
    Yes.
  8. Will lifeguards be provided during the event?
    Yes.
  9. When will I find out what teams I am playing against?
    Schedules will be available during team check-in on Friday, if not before.
  10. What if I cannot attend the team check-in?
    Please contact a GET Travel Sports representative via phone or at the guest services desk as soon as possible.
  11. Is any food and beverage included in the cost of the event?
    Yes, Friday evening will have a “Family Dinner” for all participants, coaches and their families. Package purchase is required to enjoy the dinner. At the host hotel for this event, complimentary breakfast buffet is included with room reservation.
    Water will be available on the sideline for every participating team.
  12. Will there be any vendors selling concessions during the event?
    The La Mirada Splash facility has concessions on the premises.
  13. How far away is the pool from the closet program hotel?
    The Holiday Inn La Mirada is approximately 3.5 miles from the pool.
  14. How do I register individuals?

  15. How do I enter a team?
    Teams may enter by clicking HERE through August 6, 2010.
  16. Do I need to be a member of USA Water Polo to participate?
    Yes, every participant in the Splashball will need to have an active Membership with USA Water Polo.
  17. What is expected of players, coaches and affiliated spectators?
    • All participants are to be respectful of others at all times.
    • Warm-up space may be at a premium between games. Find a share space. Please respect the grounds and facilities at the venue.
    • Medical Services - Lifeguards will be situated on deck. Should the need arise, Emergency Medical Services will be called into service.
    • Site Policies - We are utilizing a public facility. In order to maintain a positive working relationship with the pool staff, please observe the La Mirada Splash rules and information.
    • Parking - Please park in the designated areas (see site map). Driving or parking on the grass is not allowed.
    • Restrooms - Restrooms are available on site.
    • Lost and Found - The City of La Mirada and USA Water Polo are not responsible for personal property that is lost or stolen. A “lost and found” is maintained at the tournament headquarters tent for the duration of the tournament.
  18. What are the Splashball™ Rules?
    • There will be no contact allowed.
    • Players can use two hands to catch, but only one hand to pass or shoot the ball. The exception to this is the goalie, who may use two hands.
    • To start the game, players line up along the goal line. At the referee’s whistle, players sprint to the centerline.
    • If the pool is deep, flotation devices are allowed.
    • If pool is shallow, players must not walk while holding the ball.
    • Players cannot shoot from a free throw.
    • Free throws cannot be defended.
    • A goal is scored when the entire ball passes over the goal line.
    • After a goal, players return to their own half, and on the referees' whistle, a player from the team who didn't score the goal takes the throw from halfway. The ball must be passed back
    • No player may tackle another player whether in possession of the ball or not.
    • Offensive players cannot fend (Heisman) a defensive player to shield the ball.
    • Players may not swim on or over opponent's legs.
    • The ball should remain above the water surface at all times.
    • Any of the above infringements result in a free throw signaled by the referee. The free throw must be taken from where the foul occurred or an area not closer to the attacking goal of the team awarded the foul.
    • Substitutions may be made at time-out, after a goal is scored or prior to the start of period.
